Mary Laur :: About The Artist

Mary Laur - At Work In The Studio
Welcome, and thank you for visiting. Because the work you see on this web site is created by me personally in my Maryland studio, I'd like to help you connect to it and to me.

Throughout my life I have been drawn to learning about new artistic disciplines, techniques, and the specialized tools used in handcrafting. I find joy in the process of creating art and decorative items, and get a great sense of satisfaction in seeing a piece through to completion. Further joy comes in seeing others enjoying - and wearing! - the results. To see some of my two dimensional work visit marylaurart.com).

I look for the highest quality materials appropriate to each design, and strive to create items that - even in a market with many choices in handcrafted and beaded jewelry - is interesting and eye catching, and which wears well with time. I often make one-off pieces, but when materials allow, will occasionally make multiples or similar works in a theme. I maintain a high level of professionalism in my art and in my business and customer relations, and realize that there is more to a satisfying jewelry purchase than just the beautiful object itself. You are looking at work that might have involved me hammering silver, firing metal that has passed through hand-carved wax, meticulously selecting from thousands of pearls, beads and findings, carefully burnishing and finishing, or working wire into forms both traditional and innovative. I enjoy sharing both my creative efforts and my desire to present them to you in a friendly, informative setting.

As you look through the items I've presented here, please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. You will find items in the Catalog area of my site that are for immediate sale. In my Designs area you can peruse items that are no longer available, or are simply shown to give you a better sense of my work. If you see something in the Designs area that you like, please contact me to ask about availability, or to commission a similar piece.

Thank you again for taking the time to visit,

-Mary Laur
